As a child I suffered with headaches. Severe headaches.

They disrupted school, play time and, most of all, family time. I tried over-the-counter pain relievers to no avail, so off to the doctor I went. My parents took me to our home town family doctor who offered no answers. So with continued headaches which were increasing in frequency and intensity, we sought out a neurologist. Stronger medications, x-rays, an EEG, and a MRI. We tried them all and they revealed no positive findings. Doctor’s diagnosis: Migraine headaches. Now the treatment of choice at that time was anti-depressants. Not only did the medications make me feel lousy and tired, they didn’t work either.

About this time, my father was receiving chiropractic treatment for a low back injury and he asked his chiropractor’s opinion of my condition. Simply put, he said, “Bring her in.” And that we did. Scared? Yeah a little, but after all the other scary tests this turned out to be the easiest thing I had done so far. Following an examination and a spinal x-ray, I had my first chiropractic adjustment to help with a subluxation (bony misalignment) in the upper part of my neck. Now I didn’t get immediate relief, but there was a significant difference and I finally had hope. At that point I knew not only that I would be helped by chiropractic, but more importantly, I knew what I was going to do when I grew up.

A Chiropractic Education

With that goal in mind, following high school I attended North Dakota State College of Science and then was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. I chose Palmer for its strong reputation of rigorous clinical training and strong teaching of chiropractic philosophy. I definitely was surprised by the intense course work from anatomy to orthopedics, and most challenged by neurology. But it was the neurology that I not only needed to know, but wanted to know so that I could understand how chiropractic had helped eliminate my headaches. In 1990, ten trimesters later, I proudly graduated with my Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

My Philosophy

Each and every day since then patients enter through my clinic doors with diverse health care needs and my philosophy is simple. I will do all that I can to help meet those health care needs by working together as a team. I recognize that each patient is unique and therefore each care plan should also be. Some patients come for acute pain and others for wellness checkups, but all come for help and guidance. And it is that which I strive to provide.

Although I love the diverse conditions my patients seek care for, I do have to say I have a soft spot for those seeking relief from headaches. It keeps me grounded and is a reminder of how pain can affect not only one’s life but those all around them.

On a Personal Note…

When I’m not helping others at the clinic, I enjoy reading, home remodeling projects and most of all, time with my son. I continue to receive chiropractic treatments and I can’t remember the last time I had a severe headache. My son had his first adjustment when he was an infant and it has been an absolute privilege to help his body grow and become as optimum and healthy as possible. Just as it has been a joy to help my son, I want an opportunity to help you take your first steps toward better health. Call and let’s get started!
